Bromley Council’s balanced budget for 2018-19 recommended by the Executive on 7 February was agreed at Full Council on Monday 26 February 2018.
Bromley residents will see an increase of 4.21 per cent in their Council Tax bills. This is made up of an increase of 1.99 per cent on the Bromley element of the Council Tax, plus a 2 per cent adult social care precept to address cost pressures in this area. Adding in the GLA precept which has increased by 5.07 per cent, this results in the headline figure increase of 4.21 per cent which equates to £58.67 a year at Band D. Other Bands are calculated pro rata.
Bromley Council Leader Cllr Colin Smith said: “As we face up to the further significant funding reductions which lay ahead, along with cost pressures such as inflation, care for the elderly and homelessness, it remains clear that the severity of challenges we face, simply cannot be underestimated.
“The key challenge facing future years’ budgets remains the balance between spending, Council Tax levels, investment, charges for services, and service reductions in a Council handicapped by starting from a low spending base.
“As I have pledged since I first took over as Leader, I intend to continue to lobby tirelessly for a better funding deal from Government for Bromley residents, and I am pleased to confirm that this campaign is now firmly underway.”
