Small Business Saturday

December 6, 2019

Shoppers are being encouraged to support Small Business Saturday on 7 December.

The news follows the nationwide campaign to support and promote the UK’s 5.7 million small businesses. Customers can support all types of small businesses – online, in offices and in stores. Many are taking part in the day by hosting events and offering discounts with the aim of having a lasting positive impact on their small business.

“There are many types of business and with the gift-buying season underway, we want to remind shoppers and residents of the wide choice there is in the borough particularly to the smaller ones and start-ups. If you usually do your shopping in one of the big chain stores for instance, consider other options, too. You might be surprised on what’s on offer and get fantastic service elsewhere – and you could find what you wanted for less, too” said a council spokesperson.

“The seventh annual running of Small Business Saturday will be taking place next month, once again highlighting the contribution that smaller firms make to the London economy. With over 1 million small firms in the capital, Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is urging everyone to support independent businesses, particularly with the high costs of doing business” said Chandra Sharma of the Federation of Small Businesses.

The council is committed to working with businesses, including large and small where it can. Networking events for example, are held regularly for local businesses that wish to link with each other, to build mutually beneficial long term relationships. The meetings will often have a guest speaker who will educate small businesses on relevant issues such as social media for business. Business in the borough should visit www.bromley.gov.uk/business for information and advice.
