News From Len Duvall: Response To Mayor Of London’s Decision To Reject Rockwell’s Charlton

February 1, 2019

Responding to the Mayor of London’s decision to reject Rockwell’s Charlton Riverside development, Local London Assembly Member, Len Duvall AM, said: “This was the right decision by Sadiq Khan. This was a scheme at odds with the agreed vision for Charlton Riverside, and that failed to meet the needs and concerns of local people. The Mayor of London has shown real leadership in standing up for London against poor quality and poor design.

“Had City Hall not rejected this application, we’d have seen a huge strain put on local infrastructure that just can’t cope with further high density developments.

“Of course we need more housing, but that can’t be done at the expense of quality and good design. The proposals that were before us today achieved neither of those, they failed to reflect the need for family sized homes, and would have had a negative impact on existing residents, especially those living in Derrick and Atlas Gardens.

“This is a true victory for the local community and Greenwich Council who have worked tirelessly in pursuit of today’s outcome.”
