The Mayor of London has announced that the second round of his £45 million Young Londoners Fund is now open for applications. Local London Assembly Member, Len Duvall AM, is calling upon organisations and groups in the community to bid for a portion of the funding pot in order to bolster the “crucial work” being undertaken, against the backdrop of Government cuts, to support vulnerable young people.
The Young Londoners Fund is currently supporting 179 projects across the capital. Local groups, faith organisations and schools can bid for various-sized grants to boost schemes aimed at providing a helping hand to some of the most vulnerable children and adolescents in their communities.
Applicants can submit their bids, before the deadline on 12 July, through the Greater London Authority website and find out more about the scheme by signing-up to local information sessions taking place throughout this month.
The Mayor launched the fund in February 2018 in order to plug some of the gaps left by Government cuts to youth services and to reinforce early intervention efforts to divert the most at-risk Londoners away from becoming caught up in crime.
Local London Assembly Member, Len Duvall AM, said: “Almost a decade of Government austerity has put huge strain on youth services across the capital.
“It is fantastic to see City Hall stepping in here to offer much-needed financial backing to local organisations that do crucial work to support some of the most vulnerable young people in our borough.
“With violent crime and the threat of gang exploitation on the rise, investment in early intervention schemes must be a key priority, alongside robust police enforcement.
“I would urge all local groups and organisations to bid for a share of this vital round of funding before the deadline in July”.
