New Affordable Homes Being Built In Charlton

Royal Greenwich have started building 32 new affordable homes in Charlton; Woodpecker Gardens is the second site being developed by Meridian Home Start, which is funded by the council.

The 32 new homes will be rented to working residents in the area at discounted prices and is part of Meridian’s development scheme to build 230 new homes across the borough.

Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich Cllr Danny Thorpe and Cllr Chris Kirby, Cabinet Member for Housing, visited the site to see for themselves how the construction work was progressing -works are scheduled to be completed by December 2019.

The Jack’s Acre site in Eltham is also part of Meridian’s scheme and its first tenants are due to be moving in around June 2019.

Cllr Thorpe said: “Through our partnership with Meridian Home Start we can increase the supply of genuinely affordable homes for residents in the borough. The council takes seriously its commitment to increasing the supply of affordable homes and this is a great way of helping deliver on that promise.”

Richard Reynolds, Chair of Meridian Home Start said: “We are delighted that the partnership between MHS and Royal Greenwich is delivering much needed affordable homes to residents in the borough. This is part of a long term, ambitious programme creating hundreds of much needed new homes.”

Meridian Home Start is also working closely with Greenwich Local Labour and Business to offer apprenticeships across the development sites to benefit residents and keep more money in the area.
