Mayor Celebrates Bexley Sports Teams

More than 140 people attended a special Mayoral event at the Civic Offices Bexleyheath last night (26 November), to celebrate the success of the young people that represented Bexley in this year’s London Youth Games.

The Mayor of Bexley, Cllr Geraldene Lucia-Hennis, welcomed the competitors and their families and presented all the team members with a special certificate.

The teams finished in sixth place at the London-wide games that took place over the summer.

The results for teams included –

1st place for weightlifting, boys judo, trampoline
2nd place for boys cricket and boys football
3rd place for boccia and aquathlon

Fifty-seven individual medals – 15 golds, 9 silver and 26 bronze – were won by the Bexley teams in aquathlon, boys and girls athletics, diving, indoor rowing, boys and girls judo, kayak, para swimming and athletics and weightlifting.
During the event the Mayor took time to thank the volunteer team managers and coaches, as well as parents for supporting the Bexley team.

The Mayor also thanked Bexley Team sponsors Parkwood Leisure for their continued support, free membership for team members and facility hire. The Mayor also thanked the London Youth Games sponsored by Nike for a great year of sport.
