Green Flag Awards 2020!

October 16, 2020

Our parks are award-winning!

The Royal Borough of Greenwich is delighted to announce that it has retained all 13 of its Green Flag awards. The Green Flag is an international award which signifies that the winning park has the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

Each year these awards are a recognition of how important the borough’s green spaces are, but events this year have shown that they can in fact become a lifeline. Throughout the pandemic, parks and green spaces have been places of respite and at one point were the only places you could visit, alongside essential shops. This is why this year’s Green Flag awards mean so much.

The flags are also a recognition of the amazing hard work that the Royal Borough of Greenwich parks staff put in, to make the borough’s green spaces as enjoyable to be in as possible. They work day in and day out to keep the green spaces well maintained and as healthy as possible.

We are also happy to say that Twinkle Park, Charlotte Turner Gardens and Slade Ponds won Green Flag Community awards, so a big congratulations to the Friends groups who have worked so hard to keep them looking so beautiful.

Cllr Adel Khaireh, Cabinet Member for Culture, Communities and Equalities said:

“Throughout lockdown our parks have been the places that have consistently provided our residents with space to responsibly exercise, socialise and to reflect. I am thankful to all our parks staff for their hard work and encourage residents to continue to visit and enjoy the borough’s green spaces.”
