In a heartwarming display of community engagement, local councillors recently graced the brand-new, eco-friendly council homes in East Greenwich. These homes represent the latest accomplishments under the Greenwich Builds initiative, a remarkable project aiming to deliver a total of 1,750 homes.

The spotlight of this development falls on Ferrier Terrace, where four exquisite three and four-bedroom homes have been meticulously crafted to cater to larger families early waiting for housing solutions.

Among the dignitaries were Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Councillor Aidan Smith, and Councillor Maisie Richards Cottell, who had the pleasure of meeting the new occupants, including Ms Jamila and Mr. and Mrs. Mensah. Their shared sentiment of sheer satisfaction with the their new residences was palpable.

After enduring an eight-year wait, Ms. Jamila couldn’t contain her enthusiasm describing her new dwelling as an absolute upgrade from the tansient accomandations her family had been living in.

Meanwhile, Mr. and Mrs. Mensah radiated appreciation for the modern features within their new abode, highlighting amenities such as the dual bathrooms on separate levels, a pristine kitchen, and even a charming roof terrace.

But these homes don’t just stand out for their comfort and aesthetics. Each residence is equipped with its own garden and boasts cutting-edge sustainability technologies, including heat pumps and solar panels, working harmoniously to achieve zero carbon emissions.

Cllr Aidan Smith, the driving force behind the Regeneration portfolio, shared his delight, saying, “Witnessing families settle into our remarkable Greenwich Builds homes is a true joy. Their stories of positive change resonate deeply, particularly in the face of the housing crisis challenges they’ve endured.”

Ferrier Terrace’s homes perfectly epitomize the commitment to addressing demand on the housing waiting list by offering more spacious options. As these families embark on a new chapter in their lives, we extend our warmest wishes for their future in these new spaces.”

The Greenwich Builds initiative encompasses a grand vision of delivering 1,750 new council homes for those on the housing waiting list. As of now, the project has achieved over 740 completed or ongoing homes, with 16 additional sites eagerly awaiting the green light from planning authorities.
