City Hall Celebrates Winners of the London Healthy Workplace Awards

November 22, 2019
  • 64 businesses across the capital have been recognised for their efforts to achieve healthier, happier and more productive workplaces.

Organisations and businesses from a range of sectors including NHS Trusts, hotels, nurseries and insurance companies have been honoured at a special event at City Hall on Monday (November 18th).

A total of 64 businesses were recognised for outstanding dedication to the health and wellbeing of their staff at the London Healthy Workplace Awards 2019.

The London Healthy Workplace Award is an accreditation scheme led by the Mayor of London and supported by Public Health England. It acts as a template for good practice and recognises London employers which invest in their employees’ health and wellbeing. The scheme supports organisations of all sizes across public, private and voluntary sectors. Some 297 organisations have been accredited to date covering approximately 369,000 employees.

The award helps organisations address some of the biggest challenges businesses face, including recruitment and staff retention, sickness absence and employee productivity. Organisations are encouraged to develop wellbeing programmes across a wide range of areas, including support for mental health and wellbeing, smoking, alcohol and substance misuse, improving physical activity and promoting healthy eating.

Dr Tom Coffey OBE, Mayor of London Health Advisor, said: “Creating and fostering healthy workplaces has benefits for both employers and staff, improving physical and mental wellbeing, and leading to increased productivity and creativity. We want better health for all Londoners, and the London Healthy Workplace Awards both celebrates best practice and offers guidance for organisations to improve work standards. I’d like to congratulate all the winners for their great work.”

The Mayor of London is committed to ensuring employers across the capital are provided with clear and easy guidance on how to improve their workplaces to enable their staff to flourish. These awards complement the Mayor’s Good Work Standard which sets the benchmark for what the Mayor wants every London employer to achieve, including fair pay and conditions, wellbeing, skills and progression, and diversity and recruitment.
