Brownies Clean-Up

May 10, 2019

Earlier this month, the 6th Barnehurst Brownies donned hi viz vests, grabbed their litter pickers and helped to clean up their local area.

They are one group from more than 300 volunteers, including schools, faith groups, businesses and individuals, that have joined Bexley’s Litter Picking volunteers scheme. All of them have given their free time to help keep the borough’s streets clean and tidy.

Councillor Teresa O’Neill, OBE Leader of the Council said: “Every day a small army of volunteers in Bexley work to make our Borough cleaner and greener. Picking up plastic litter, or any other type of litter, is a simple way to make a difference. Join the 300 people who have already volunteered as community litter pickers or the 2,500 plus who have made the pledge to pick up at least one piece of plastic litter a week. #DoItForBexley!”

People joining Bexley’s Litter Picking scheme are provided with equipment and can choose to litter pick at their own convenience. If you would like to join the scheme please email jennie.beckett@bexley.gov.uk or telephone 0203 045 4620.

Residents can make the pledge to pick up at least one piece of plastic litter a week through the London Green Points website www.localgreenpoints.com/doitforbexley

As an added bonus, residents that have an account with the borough’s recycling reward scheme provider, will receive 300 Green Points on their account when they make the pledge. New scheme members will earn an extra 50 bonus points for signing up.
