Bromley Promotes A Healthier Future For Residents

July 19, 2019

Bromley’s Health and Wellbeing Board has signed up to promoting a healthier future for the people of Bromley.

Bromley Public Health will be working with partners represented at the Board including health leaders such as the Bromley Clinical Commissioning Group and GPs, local Safeguarding Boards and key organisations from the voluntary sector, to focus on a number of priorities for improving health and wellbeing in the borough over the next four years.

The health priorities have been brought together in Bromley’s second Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy, launched by the Public Health team, and adopted by Bromley’s Health and Wellbeing Board. This will form the basis of a number of action plans to maintain and improve health in the borough. The main topics identified for Bromley are cancer, obesity, diabetes, dementia, adult mental health, homelessness, adults living with a learning disability, drugs and alcohol in young people, youth violence and adolescent mental health.

Councillor David Jefferys, Chairman of the Health and Wellbeing Board said: “Our vision in this second strategy is for the people of Bromley to live an independent, healthy and happy life for longer. This strategy is important as it is a shared agreement between each partner organisation in the Health and Wellbeing Board with, and for, people of all ages living and working in Bromley. It is about what we can and want to change, helping those who commission or provide health and social care, communities and individuals to focus their efforts over the next five years. Put simply, we want to improve the wellbeing of everyone in Bromley and we won’t rest until this is done, but equally we want to encourage and help everyone to play their part in looking after their body and mind. This has to be a shared strategy.”

Through the strategy, which runs from 2019 to 2023, and accompanying action plans, Bromley Public Health aims to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of those who live and work in the borough, sustaining Bromley as a healthy place to live, work and visit. Work has already begun on individual action plans for each of the key topics to drive the ambitions forward and raise awareness. Progress will be reported through the Health and Wellbeing Board on a regular basis from now on until 2023.
