Book Buzz 2020

February 21, 2020
Bexley’s Book Buzz 2020 festival got off to a flying start with the launch day at Central Library this weekend (15 February).

As the two week literary event started the library was packed with families and children enjoying the free activities on offer including facepainting, soft play and mini golf. Children loved meeting the Gruffalo, Mog and Peter Rabbit who were very friendly and even tried their hand mini golf.

Visitors were treated to a wonderful performance from the Sidcup Choir School’s Youth and Adult choirs before the official launch by the Mayor of Bexley, Cllr Geraldene Lucia-Hennis and Cabinet Member for Places, Cllr Peter Craske, who were joined at the event by the Leader of the Council, Cllr Teresa O’Neill OBE and Chairman of the Places Overview and Scrutiny Committee, Cllr Melvin Seymour.

Cllr Craske said; “The launch is just the start of a festival that will see some fantastic author talks, workshops, drama, mini theatre, music and fun children’s events held in venues all around the borough. There really is something for everyone. So visit the website find out what’s on and join in the Bexley BookBuzz fun!”

Visitors were also joined at the event by special guest authors Ben Aaronovitch and Andrew Cartmel who also gave a fascinating talk in the afternoon about the writing of their Rivers of London graphic novels.

Children from Burnt Oak Junior School were busy reporting on the day for their own Burnt Oak Buzz school publication taking the opportunity during the day to interview both Councillor Craske and the Mayor.
