Assembly Response To Gatwick Airport Station Expansion

July 12, 2019

The Department for Transport (DfT) has announced plans to upgrade Gatwick Airport station.

The upgrade is expected to cost £150 million and is expected to reduce train delays caused by overcrowding and congestion.

In response, Chair of the London Assembly Transport Committee, Florence Eshalomi AM, said:

“We welcome this announcement by the DfT to expand Gatwick Airport Station.

“The London Assembly Transport Committee in 2013 called for improved surface transport access at Gatwick and still holds this position today.

“It is important overcrowding and congestion is eased at that station. Especially if it is causing train delays meaning passengers face missing flights or other transport connections.

“The DfT must also think about improving surface transport access to other London airports.”
