Almost three-quarters of Bromley’s secondary schools have been judged above average or well above average with a significant proportion of the remainder judged on a par with other such schools nationally.

Key Stage 4 Performance Results 2017

The Department for Education (DfE) has published the 2017 Key Stage 4 school performance results for 2017 for all UK state-funded schools taking into account a number of headline indicators. These include attainment and progress in key subjects such as English and Mathematics calculated and compared nationally using assessment results from the end of primary school, GCSE results and results from the English Baccalaureate.

Better Than Average Results At A Level In Bromley

Bromley pupils also out-performed the national average in 2016 and 17 at A level judged by the percentage of pupils achieving three A*-A and AAB or better.

For 2017, 13.16 per cent of A level students achieved A*-A grades against a national average of 13 per cent of those taking the exams. The figures for AAB or better are even more impressive for 2017 at 24.1 per cent for Bromley, against the national average of 21.8 per cent. When considering the ‘facilitating subjects’ such as Mathematics, English Literature, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, History and Languages, the figures are 19.4 per cent for Bromley compared to 16.6 per cent nationally.

The government has also announced new measures for Level 3 results and will replace the old point score system with a new system that uses a simpler scale of 10-60 points for A levels, where a grade A* is given 60 points and a grade E is given 10 points.

Cllr Peter Fortune, Executive Member for Education, Children and Families said: “This is great news. We have put Bromley’s children at the centre of our Building a Better Bromley priorities and I am always delighted to see our young people not only doing well, but also exceeding national averages.”
