Independent pubs, bars and sports and social clubs will be eligible for ring-fenced local funding through the January to March period.
The additional support which has been agreed today is part of a £6.6million funding programme that will provide help to local businesses through grants and business support functions.
The independent Public House and clubs grant has been agreed in recognition that these local businesses have been amongst the most severely impacted and have had access to limited support.
Councillor Colin Smith, Leader of Bromley Council said, “We want to make sure that our local hospitality sector both survives and thrives into the future. This fund recognises the crucial role that these local businesses play in our communities right across the Borough, not just in town centres but also in sports and social clubs that are integral to the many activities that are valued by so many.”
Jamie and Carole Muir have been the managing The Oak in Widmore Road, Bickley for 16 years and say they have never known a more difficult period for the industry. Carole said, “We run a safe and family-friendly pub which is an important part of the local community. We’re really frightened that without help we’ll not be able to survive the pandemic.” Jamie continued, “That’s why we are so grateful to the Council for stepping in to support us at this difficult time. It’s a great boost for the community and to local businesses and we are so thankful they have listened to our concerns. We’d love to buy them a pint when we reopen!”

The confirmation of these new ring fenced monies also follows proactive work to distribute the Christmas support payment to wet led pubs.
