Bromley All-Age Autism working groups and The Glades are bringing a learning space to The Glades shopping centre to help raise awareness of autism and get people in Bromley talking!
An opportunity to find out what support is available locally for people who live with autism will be available when the Bromley All-Age Autism working group makes temporary use of a learning space in the Glades shopping centre in Bromley.
The Bromley Autism Awareness Week is being held from Thursday 22 to Sunday 25 October, 10am – 5pm. The shop unit being used can be found in The Glades on the 2nd floor, opposite Lush. The volunteers are made up of members from Bromley Council, Bromley Parent Voice, CASPA Bromley, South East London Clinical Commissioning Group, Bromley Mencap, parents/carers and young people and adults with autism.
Councillor Peter Fortune, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Children, Education and Families said, “We are keen to make sure that autism remains a priority in Bromley despite the challenges of the pandemic. It can bewildering if you are seeking to support a family member or friend living with autism and knowing what advice and support is out there is important. There is information available online but if you are shopping in Bromley, we will be available to share information or discuss a specific issue in a socially distanced way.”
The pop-up shop learning space, in partnership with the Glades, will give a socially distanced opportunity for visitors and shoppers to learn more about autism, which is a development disability. A range of additional measures will be in place to make sure that social distancing takes place in the response to the ongoing pandemic.
Visitors and shoppers are advised that whether autism plays a big role in their life, or if they are just curious to learn more, they can visit the pop-up store in The Glades to:

The Bromley Autism Awareness Week follows postponement of the planned event in April, which was postponed due to the ‘lockdown period’ after the outbreak of the coronavirus.
