Everest Inn Celebrates 20 Years as a Blackheath Community Staple

8 Jul, 2025

July 2025 — The month of July marks a very special milestone for Everest Inn, as the much-loved Blackheath restaurant celebrates 20 years of bringing the flavours, heart, and spirit of Nepal to South East London.

Since opening its doors in 2005, Everest Inn has become a cornerstone of the local community — not only as a home to award-winning Nepali-Indian fusion cuisine, but as a gathering place deeply rooted in people, culture, and giving back.

Located on Montpelier Vale, overlooking the Heath, the restaurant is led by Executive Chef Shanker Pandey, owner Yadav Bhandari, and Head Chef Ram B. Bhandari, supported by a team who have remained loyal over the years — a testament to the family ethos that drives everything they do. Their passion has earned Everest Inn multiple British Curry Awards and Asian Curry Awards, as well as features on national media — including Chef Shanker’s 2024 appearance on Rick Stein’s TV show.

As part of the 20th birthday celebrations this month, the team recently had the honour of catering a prestigious event at the Embassy of Nepal, presenting a four-course gourmet menu that celebrated the elegance and depth of Nepali cuisine — a true expression of their heritage. This follows previous invitations to serve at 10 Downing Street, showcasing Everest Inn’s ever-growing contribution to putting Nepalese food firmly on the UK’s culinary map.

Everest Inn is proud to share its mission with respected Nepali culinary ambassador Chef Santosh Shah (MasterChef: The Professionals finalist and Champion of Champions), who, like Everest Inn, is passionate about promoting authentic Nepali cuisine across the UK. Their story is also intertwined with the wider Nepali community, including cherished relationships with iconic cricketer Paras Khadka and long-time supporter Joanna Lumley.

Beyond the kitchen, Everest Inn’s dedication to community, loyalty, and charity has remained unwavering. Over the years, the restaurant has supported local schools, events, and initiatives — including raising funds for Project Hospice Nepal and donating over 30,000 meals during the COVID-19 pandemic to NHS staff, care homes, and frontline workers.

Known for its sell-out Diwali Nights, which now span two nights due to demand, Everest Inn continues to celebrate cultural traditions with warmth and generosity — values that are at the heart of its success.

“For two wonderful decades, Everest Inn has been more than just a restaurant to us—we’ve been proud to be part of the heart and soul of Blackheath. As a family-run business, we take immense pride in not only serving award-winning cuisine but also in the relationships we’ve built with the local community.

Our commitment to giving back has always been at the heart of our ethos. From supporting schools and local initiatives to contributing to traditions like the Blackheath Christmas lights, we’ve always strived to make a positive impact. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we were honoured to provide over 30,000 free meals to frontline workers, care homes, hospitals, and NHS staff when they needed it most.

As Blackheath has grown—from a village of independent traders to the rise of big chains—our passion for preserving our close-knit community spirit remains stronger than ever.

We’re deeply grateful for our customers and their continued support and look forward to celebrating many more years together.”
