This talk is called “Defects – potential routes to recovery” and is aimed at residential managing agents, directors of block-owning and management companies and all those with an interest in getting defects in blocks of flats put right.
The speakers will discuss ways that it might be possible to get reimbursement of the costs of repair or remediation from landlords, developers, contractors, professionals and others, such as product manufacturers. They will also briefly discuss the protections now offered to tenants of “qualifying leases” of “relevant buildings”, common issues with BSA related documentation when properties are sold, and funding that might be available from the Building Safety Fund and the Cladding Safety Scheme.”
2. “Introduction to Construction” on Wednesday 14 May, 8.30 – 10.00am
This event is intended for those new or relatively new to the world of construction or those who don’t work in construction every day. It might also be useful to those with more experience who want a reminder of some of the main issues and things to think about.
The talk starts with a brief reminder of the importance of the construction industry before moving on to mention the efforts made in recent decades to reduce the number, length and cost of disputes. As part of this, adjudication and required payment procedures are discussed. The second half of the seminar touches on procurement routes (different ways of getting the scheme built), some of the standard forms of building contract, how best to appoint professionals and the role of collateral warranties, third party rights and other frequently seen construction documents. The seminar concludes with a mention of the very important topic of insurance.
