SECRETARY OF STATE FOR TRANSPORT VISIT TO BEXLEY
Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling MP paid a visit to Bexley (31 August) to meet with the Leader of the London Borough of Bexley, Cllr Teresa O’Neill OBE along with local MPs David Evennett MP and Teresa Pearce MP to discuss local transport issues.
Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Growth, Cllr Linda Bailey and Cabinet Member for Traffic and Transport, Cllr Alex Sawyer joined the Leader and Bexley’s Chief Executive, Gill Steward and senior officers at the meeting that touched on Bexley’s ambitious plans for Growth and the important part that transport plays.
Cllr O’Neill said; “It was great to welcome Mr Grayling to Bexley and give him a flavour of what would like to see in our borough. Good infrastructure is key to Bexley’s growth and I hope that this visit may be the start of a really positive conversation.”
The Leader of the Council and Cabinet colleagues recently met with Transport for London to set out the need for investment to improve transport links in and around Erith, as well as the case for improvements to train services, bus services and the local cycle network.
The Council is particularly keen that as many parts of the borough as possible can take advantage of the new Crossrail service to Abbey Wood. The TfL meeting also covered the need for better bus services to local hospitals, the need for more capacity for schoolchildren at peak times, maintenance of the A2 and A20 and provision for electric cars.
