Montessori Education for Autism

Last week the Chamber recieved some good news from Chamber member, Montessori Education for Autism, based in Blackheath.

Wendy Fidler, MEfA Academic Director, Montessori teacher and developmental therapist said "I am delighted to tell you that our After-school Nurture Group for Children with Autism has been shortlisted for The Community Champion Award, hosted by the Police Community Clubs of Great Britain, supported by Costa.

Montessori Education for Autism (MEfA) is a charity based in Blackheath, and relies on private donations and grant funding to deliver and campaign for good physical, mental and emotional health for children and families with autism and other special educational needs.

The After-school Nurture Group meets on Tuesdays from 3:30-5:30, and children from across South East London attend with their parents, enjoying games, crafts and academic activities. The children develop new strategies for social and communication skills - these are often the areas which cause children on the autistic spectrum to struggle at school. As a result, children are better able to access what is available to them at school, and this has a lasting, positive impact on their overall life chances."
