Greenwich Council's Planning Board has approved the development of an eight storey office building to be located on the Greenwich Peninsula, to the south of the O2 Arena.

The development will create jobs for approximately 845 people - over 700 of these will be office related and more than 100 in the retail sector.

This is in addition to jobs that will be created in the construction process.

The scheme is the latest to provide business opportunities and economic benefits in the growing business district on Greenwich Peninsula.

The 40-metre-high office block will offer more than 18,600 square metres of office floorspace, and more than 2,000 square metres of floorspace for restaurants/shops.

The scheme will also include landscaping improvements in the surrounding area.

Later this year, Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication is due to open its new campus at the heart of the Peninsula. The campus will provide facilities for its 1,400 students who follow pre-degree, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in subjects that include design, music production and architecture.

Deputy Council Leader, Peter Brooks said: "This latest development is further evidence of the continuing success of Greenwich Peninsula as a successful and growing business district. It will build on the success of this area which has already created thousands of jobs and will provide a further boost to the local economy."
