Threat to Charing Cross, Waterloo and Victoria direct rail services

We draw attention to the South Eastern rail services consultation which threatens direct services to Charing Cross, Waterloo and Victoria.

In the current consultation on the South East rail franchise,

the section on simplifying the South East rail network to improve reliability suggests:

"An example might be for all Metro services on the north Kent (between Dartford and Charlton), Greenwich and Bexleyheath lines to terminate at Cannon Street only" (Page 23).

The accompanying question (Question 17 in the response questionnaire) is more general "How far do you support, or oppose, options to reduce the choice of central London destinations served from individual stations with the aim of providing a more regular, evenly spaced timetable, and a more reliable service?" i.e. no mention of what voting for greater reliability might mean!

We urge all local businesses to take action and oppose these proposals

  • Email the Department for Transport at with your opposition to this threat. Please head your email "Threat to Charing Cross, Waterloo and Victoria direct rail services". Please say you are a user of the Bexleyheath Line and are completely opposed to the suggestion on page 23 of the Consultation document that all services on this line should terminate at Cannon Street. The reliability benefits suggested in the document will be massively outweighed by the inconvenience and additional time incurred by having to change trains at London Bridge/Lewisham. Please give your name and postcode in your email.

These proposals would be a disaster for local businesses, many thanks for your assistance in opposing this threat.
