Support a young person on the Runway to Success

The Royal Borough of Greenwich, in partnership with London City Airport and Tower Hamlets Education Business Partnership, has launched a new employability programme for Royal Greenwich Secondary schools. The programme involves a series of one day events to increase young peoples’ awareness of work culture and employer expectations. The aim is to equip them with the skills required to succeed in the work place.

Following their very successful launch event in February at The John Joan School, they are looking for volunteers to help support young people at subsequent events across 5 schools in Royal Greenwich between April and June 2017:

Volunteers will work with a small group of students ranging from Year 8 (12 – 13 year olds) to Year 12 (16 – 17 year olds), supporting them as they work through various activities throughout the day, each one covering a key skill or employability concept.  Skills and concepts covered include first impressions, employer expectations, team work, applying for a job, CV’s and application forms, interview skills and so on.  Workshop timings vary depending on the school and activities, some are full day sessions (approx. 08:30 – 15:00) and some are afternoon sessions (12:30 – 15:00).

It is easy to volunteer – no DBS background check is required and no prior training or preparation is needed. Lunch and refreshments will also be available. All that is required is a few hours of your time and the enthusiasm to help a young person to learn more, do more and become more!
