Summer feast will showcase the best of local food
Royal Borough of Greenwich present Good Food, Event in Woolwich on Saturday 11 July, with a chance for residents, shoppers and visitors to enjoy a day filled with food, music and fun. The Royal Greenwich Summer Feast - part of the Good Food in Greenwich initiative - takes place from 11am – 5pm in General Gordon Square, Woolwich, on Saturday 11 July. Nearby, Berkeley Homes’ Royal Arsenal development will see the launch of a monthly farmers’ market, focusing on quality, artisan food produced in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
The Summer Feast in General Gordon Square aims to celebrate some of the borough’s food businesses and projects while offering a chance to enjoy a variety of global music performers. It will allow local people to find out about some of the projects taking part in the Good Food in Greenwich initiative – an open partnership that brings together local organisations who share a commitment to building a fairer, healthier and more sustainable Greenwich. Community growing schemes will be offering some of their produce, while local cookery clubs will be sharing tips and recipes. Local traders due to take part include Greenwich Pantry, Made in Greenwich, Organic Greenwich, Casa Grande, Carib-Gourmet, The Honest Loaf and Viet Baguette.
The event also features the Greenwich Change 4 Life Summer Roadshow which will be touring the borough offering support and advice to local families on how to make healthy changes to their lifestyle. Music performers supplied by Global Fusion Arts will include Caribbean Steel Pan Jazz, Ghanaian Highlife roots music and Congolese Rumba. Local residents and businesses will have a chance sign up to the Good Food in Greenwich initiative, with a pledge to change or improve their approach to food in the coming year. This could include deciding to get involved in a growing project, or pledging to shop from local farmer’s market.
