Letter from the Mayor and Leader of Royal Greenwich to businesses.

Dear friends,

Like us, you will have been shocked at the images of devastation caused by the recent earthquake in Nepal.
The human consequences of such devastation are still being calculated, and the impact on people in such a remote country will be felt for many years to come.

Greenwich has one of the largest Nepalese communities in London, for whom this is a desperately worrying time. The Royal Borough of Greenwich stands by these members of our community and will do all we can to support them at such a difficult time. We are supporting local community organisations who are collecting blankets and other essential items to be sent to Nepal.

If you can spare any of the following items please bring them to Woolwich Town Hall or the Eltham Centre, and they will be collected by a local charity which is working closely with the Nepalese Embassy and international aid agencies to fly them out to some of the villages in Nepal that have been hardest hit.

  • Sleeping bags/ blankets
  • Wind up or solar torches
  • Toiletries
  • Dried Fruit
  • Cartons or bottles of water/ fruit juice/ long life milk
  • Children’s clothing (for all ages)
  • Baby food/milk
  • Cereals/ biscuits/ packet food
  • Cutlery/plates/cups

We would also encourage local people to support the fundraising appeal that has been launched today by donating to:

  • Disasters Emergency Committee’s Nepal Earthquake Appeal
    -tel 0370 60 60 900.

We are sure that local residents, employees and businesses will want to do all they can to help.
