Lewisham Empty Property Scheme

Lewisham Empty Properties needed

Lewisham Council has won £500,000 from the Greater London Authority (GLA) to help turn empty property into homes and is looking for landlords, builders and businesses to come forward with proposals.

If you have an empty house in disrepair, a flat above a shop, or office, storage or warehouse space that could be turned into homes, then the Council wants to hear from you and quickly. The money needs to be spent on projects completed by the end of March 2016.

With grant funding from the Council, owners of these properties could generate themselves a rental income and avoid vandalism, squatting and further dilapidation that could result from leaving properties empty. Owners must enter into a five-year lease with the Council who would pay an agreed rent and then let the properties to homeless families.

Over the past two years, the Council has used GLA funding to develop and bring back into use 65 homes.
