Improvement works start in Northumberland Heath
Improvement works in Northumberland Heath started on 12 January and are expected to take up to six weeks to complete. The works will enhance the public spaces at the junction of Bexley Road and Mill Road, by renewing old street furniture, reducing street clutter and providing new paving and trees. Decorative banners will be placed on lamp columns to highlight the history of Northumberland Heath and to give the area a stronger identity. An interpretation sign providing information about the town's former mill and tramway will also be installed on the main road. The final stage of the works will see a deep clean carried out on the Councilowned pavements in March. Cllr Linda Bailey, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Growth, said: "We have engaged with the local community to develop this scheme, in support of the businesses and community facilities in Northumberland Heath. Local Councillors have been working with me to develop these improvements and local people have been involved throughout the process. I hope these works will create a sense of pride in the town, and encourage people to spend more time there."
