Forever Young Festival 2017
A new free festival designed to celebrate the older generation is coming to Charlton.
Live music, Tai Chi, mini spa treatments, reminiscence and a free lunch will be among the attractions at Forever Young Festival on Friday 22 September which aims to reduce social isolation.
Arts and crafts, market stalls and much more will also be available at the drop-in event which is being held at The Stables in Hornfair Road from 11am to 4pm.
Forever Young Festival will mark the official launch of the Dementia Friendly Greenwich campaign which aims to improve the quality of life for residents with dementia and their carers by creating a more inclusive borough. Businesses will be encouraged to become more ‘dementia friendly’ by improving their layouts and service - making it easier for people with dementia to feel confident while out and about.
Cllr David Gardner, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: “Older residents are at risk of experiencing social isolation which has many negative effects. Free events like the Forever Young Festival encourage older people to get out of the house to socialise, meet new people and have fun. We hope to make Forever Young Festival an annual event which people can look forward to attending year after year.
“I am also looking forward to launching Dementia Friendly Greenwich and kick-starting the campaign to remove the barriers faced by people with dementia and their carers.”
