Development agreement to be completed with Countryside
The council’s Executive has signalled its intention to complete a development agreement with Countryside Properties.
The news follows Countryside Properties being selected as the council’s preferred developer to deliver the next phase of development on Opportunity Site G in the council’s Area Action Plan. At the same Executive meeting last week, Members also agreed to withdraw a Notice of Intention to Dispose of Open Space in connection with the scheme. This decision will allow the design team the opportunity to respond positively to feedback from the wider public consultation, with an anticipated net gain in public open space.
“This is a key site in Bromley’s town centre - creating a high quality scheme which incorporates both housing, community and commercial space, as well as opening up access to the park. The proposed improvements to the town centre are to be welcomed as this scheme will also connect the town centre with the greenspace. We recognise the concerns expressed in the consultation about the impact on the park and we are confident that Countryside can now address this, which is why the Notice is being withdrawn” said Councillor Stephen Carr, Leader of Bromley Council.
The development agreement will see Countryside submit a planning application for about 384 residential units along with at least 10,000 sq feet of commercial and community space, including the re-provision of the Town Church. The Countryside development proposal conformed to the council’s objectives for the site as set out in the Area Action Plan which include seeking to:
- Provide a quality residential-led scheme of the highest architectural design which incorporates both commercial and community uses
- Ensure a strong connectivity between the development, the High Street, the adjoining park and the Churchill Theatre
- Demonstrate excellence in urban design that establishes a new residential destination within the town and enhances the linkage to the park.
