Celebrating Lewisham's 50th anniversary

Lewisham's 50th anniversary archive

What might you have in common with musician Jimi Hendrix, the Archbishop Desmond Tutu and actor Jude Law? These celebrities are just three of many well-known people that were born or have lived in Lewisham and are part of the borough's history.

Whether you are used to signing autographs like these former residents or not, the council would like you to celebrate its golden anniversary by sharing your own memories.

With the Heritage Lottery Fund, who have funded this important project; they have been busy gathering artefacts such as old photographs, theatre programmes and school uniforms that represent the last 50 years in Lewisham.

You can visit a participating library with your memorabilia. Anything you bring along will be photographed so that the images can be added to the Lewisham archives for future generations to discover.
