Businesses and festival goers gearing up to Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta
Businesses and festival goers gearing up to Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta – a fantastic festival of ships and family entertainment unveiled
In just under a month, a fleet of international Tall Ships will arrive in Greenwich, London for the Rendez-Vous Tall Ships Regatta 2017 and the details of the fantastic programme of events that will take place during the four day festival are being unveiled.
The start of the Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta is a visual maritime feast over the Easter weekend, 13 – 16 April, which will see 40 Tall Ships set sail for Quebec in Canada from the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
On land, there will be an amazing Tall Ships Festival taking place at Greenwich town centre and Woolwich, bringing live jazz and blues performances, have-a-go activities, roving street entertainers, sea shanties, re-enactors, puppet shows and plenty to eat and drink - the last Tall Ships event in 2014 saw 1 million people visit the Royal Borough to see the Tall Ships on the river, generating over £17 million of spend locally. In Royal Greenwich, local businesses big and small are gearing up for the event with a programme of entertainment in venues across the borough, ensuring their businesses are well stocked with food and beverages in plentiful supply, to cope with the huge extra numbers expected to attend both festival sites.
There will be entertainment for all ages at both Festival sites and the line-up is being revealed.
Councillor Denise Scott-McDonald, Cabinet Member for Culture, Creative Industries and Community Well-Being, said: “The last Tall Ships Regatta 2014 event attracted over 1 million visitors and the Rendez-Vous Tall Ships Regatta 2017 will be a maritime and cultural spectacular not to be missed. The event will also give a welcome boost to our local economy and businesses, who are already preparing for a very busy weekend.
A day by day guide to the events schedule will be available shortly on the Royal Greenwich Tall Ships 2017 website at www.royalgreenwich.gov.uk/tallships/whatson or follow event updates on Facebook.
Fifty young people from the Royal Borough of Greenwich will be setting sail on the first leg of the Regatta, to Sines in Portugal, thanks to the generous sponsorship of a range of partners, including Peabody Housing, U+I, the Port of London Authority, London City Cruise Port and Tall Ships official Charity Partners, Seafarers UK.
